Reverence

On route to Times Square.

I had the joy of going to Times Square, New York City, for Turban Day 2019. Hosted by Sikhs of NY, this beautiful event was a bright, colorful scene in the heart of New York City.

M&M’S World!
Entering Times Square

Many people were in attendance including journalists, performers, photographers and people from all over the world. There were performances from children and various groups as well as free turban tying.

Times Square with color and pomp!

They tied turbans for many people – we got to choose the color of the turban cloth that we wanted to wear. Near the stage, several people tied turbans for the public.
Me after my turban was tied. Thanks to the person who tied my turban! The turban color I chose was a peach color. Wearing the illustrious turban and connecting with so many people (including friends) are experiences I shall never forget.

Having seen this event in photos for years, I decided to go this year to see for myself and experience a taste of this beautiful culture. Lot of the traditions and customs practiced by other cultures are fascinating to me because I grew up learning the traditions and customs practiced by my ancestors.

Though we are culturally different, we are unique fabrics from the same cloth.

What I appreciated most about this event is that it was an open display and conversation about Sikhism, Turbans and friendship. Everyone was welcoming and all smiles.
