The Best Places To See In Bangalore

I’ve spent many summers in Bangalore, which is one of my favorite cities to visit whenever I visit India. It brings many happy memories to mind when I think of Bangalore.

Traveling to these cities during the pandemic was not the same as traveling before the pandemic. One must be careful when traveling to India (or anywhere for that matter) during the pandemic – more precautions are needed to be taken.

Nonetheless, it was a memorable trip, and I had a great time being with my family. I was not able to go to every place that I usually go to when in Bangalore, but I’ve listed some places you must visit when in this illustrious city.

Temples: Visiting any temple in India is an experience of its own. Some temples are dedicated to specific deities and follow certain practices. Going to the temple gives me great vibes and seeing the wonderfully designed statues always fascinates me. Not only do I get to pray, but I get to see beautifully designed walls. I also sometimes get the opportunity to sing devotional songs – one of my favorite things to do.

Local Shops/Vendors: When walking, you might come across local shops or vendors who specialize in handicrafts, flower garlands, jewelry, or so forth. It is amazing to see their hard work and unique designs. For example, we stopped by a place where someone was selling dolls – I love collecting dolls from different countries for our Golu (our doll display for Navarathri). It was great to see the dolls being painted, and I know this is something I will treasure in my collection.

Lavelle Road: This posh place is known for boutiques, bars, restaurants, and cafes. Stop by to check out some of the cool spots here.

Commercial Street: When I was a kid, Commercial Street was not what it looks like today. There are now so many new shops; this time, there was an actual well-paved road for the cars. If you are looking for bridal wear, outfits for weddings, or just want to shop for other occasions, this is the place to be.

MG Road: I could not go here this time, but I love visiting Mahatma Gandhi Road (aka MG Road) as well. I love stopping at different book shops on this road to grab Amar Chitra Katha comics. It is a nice place to walk around and check out different shops and restaurants. This is also close to Brigade Road, which has more shops as well.

Gandhi Bazaar: This is another great place that has shops, places to get Mehendi (henna), cafes/restaurants with the best food offerings, and more. There are also tailors, laundromats, and people who sell flowers as well. I always visit this place whenever I come to Bangalore.

Jayanagar: There is so much you can do at Jayanagar such as shopping at many boutiques and stores and eating at nice cafes/restaurants. You can also see markets for food and other home/puja (prayer) items.

Coconut: When in India, you must drink coconut water. They will cut the coconut with a sickle, and you will drink the most rejuvenating and tastiest drink of your life. Afterwards, ask to get the coconut cut so you can eat the white part, which is jelly-like and tasty as well.

METRO: If you love Costco, this is your place. You can find anything from kitchenware to appliances to shoes to stationary to anything you need. I almost got lost here trying to figure out where my aunt was. While you could probably get some basic items at your local shop, this place is impressive in size and offerings.
